Summary of Duties Performs a full range of simple cooking by preparing and cooking items that require little or no processing, such as pancakes, sausage, eggs, hamburgers, and fresh or canned vegetables. Prepares hot cereals and concentrated or dehydrated soups, sauces and gravies. Makes cold sandwich fillings. Sets up and replenishes salad bar. Prepares food by peeling, chopping, grinding, paring, cutting, slicing, dicing, pureeing, dredging, flouring, or breading. Weighs, measures, and assembles ingredients for regular and modified menu items. Mixes ingredients according to precisely written recipes. Covers, dates, and stores leftovers according to established procedures. Operates a variety of kitchen equipment using gas, electricity, steam or microwave heat sources. Disassembles, cleans and assembles component parts and accessories, following safety procedures to avoid personal injury and damage to the equipment. Uses and cleans a variety of cooking utensils to measure, weigh, and process food items. Cleans, stores, and maintains all equipment and work areas after each use. Cleans other work areas and equipment, such as worktables, floors, walk-in refrigerators, etc., on an established cleaning schedule. Follows established sanitation procedures when handling food. Ensures that foods are stored at the correct temperatures to prevent bacteria growth. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualification Requirements Basic knowledge of food preparation methods and procedures. Skill to cook a limited variety of prepared foods or short order foods. Ability to read and understand written food service material such as food labels, standardized recipes, and basic work instructions. Skill in performing basic mathematical computations to multiply ingredients in a recipes or to determine servings. Knowledge of the various tables of weights and measures and ability to follow instructions to convert from standard to metric measurements. Skill in operating, disassembling and cleaning basic food service equipment. Knowledge of basic sanitation, infection and spoiling control procedures.

Conditions of Employment Must be able to continually stand, walk, stoop, reach, push, pull, and bend up to 8 hours. Must be able to lift or move objects up to 40 pounds unassisted, and occasionally lift or move objects weighing over 40 pounds with the assistance of other workers or lifting devices. Must be able to perform work in kitchen areas which are hot and noisy, exposure to steam, fumes and odors from cooking, also extreme temperature changes. Must stand on floor, subject to burns, cuts, and slipping on wet floors. Must pass or have a current TB (PPD) clearance. Work is performed in kitchen areas, which are well lighted but are often hot and noisy. Employee is exposed to steam, fumes, odors from cooking, and to extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigerators or freezing units. Must stand on tile floor, subject to burns, cuts, and slipping on wet floors.
Spouse Preference FOLLOWING RECENT POLICY GUIDANCE FROM DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE CLARIFIES SPOUSE EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM ENTITLEMENT. Refusal by the spouse to participate in established recruitment procedures, such as interview, when requested and submission of properly completed additional forms when required, will be considered as a declination of employment and result in the termination of spouse preference for the current PCS of the sponsor. EMPLOYMENT PREFERENCE FOR SPOUSE EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM (SEP) ELIGIBLES: 1. You must be wife or husband of an active duty military member in the armed forces who entered into marriage prior to the sponsor's relocation. 2. Your application must be for the Grade NF- 3 and below, and all hourly rate positions. 3. You must request consideration at the time you submit a DA Form 3433 (application form) and attach a copy of your sponsor's PCS orders to certify eligibility. 4. The period of eligibility begins 30 days before the military sponsor's reporting date and ends 6 months prior to the end of the tour. NOTE: Spouse preference eligibility is terminated on placement into, or declination of a continuing position (one expected to last at least one year) at any grade level for which the eligible spouse has applied for employment in either the appropriated or NAF work force within DOD and whether or not preference was applied. EMPLOYMENT PREFERENCE FOR INVOLUNTARILY SEPARATED MILITARY MEMBERS (ISM) AND THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS: 1. You must be an ISM or family member of an ISM. 2. Your application must be for Grade NF-3 and below and hourly rate position. 3. You must attach a copy of DD Form 214 (DD Form 1173 for family members) or copy of official letter from Department of the Army indicating eligibility. NOTE: ISM preference can be exercised only one. Accordingly, ISM preference eligibility is terminated upon placement in or declination of (which ever occurs first) a nonappropriated fund position for which application was made. Spouse employment preference has priority over ISM preference.

Repromotion Consideration Current NAF employees demoted from this or a higher grade without personal cause are entitled to repromotion consideration for a period of one year from date of demotion. NAF employees who believe they are entitled and who desire such consideration for this vacancy must indicate on their DA Form 3433 that they are a repromotion candidate.
